break wind

Ameren UE has established a green power program called PurePower. For just a penny and a half more per kilowatt hour, you can purchase RECs (Renewable Energy Certificates) from Blue Ridge Wind Farm in King City, Missouri, which also happens to be green-e certified. This is a great way way to support renewable energy. Also, it is about as close as you can get to buying straight renewable energy. It’s supporting a local wind farm, they only sell as many energy blocks as the farm can produce, and if they sell more they’ll build another wind farm. Of course they can’t guarantee that you will be receiving the actual green power because the energy itself gets funneled into a large power pool and relieves stress from coal power plants so ideally, the more wind energy that gets put into the pool, the less coal power plants will have to contribute. More information on PurePower can be found here.
