an altruistic parking meter?

the city of clayton is following in the footsteps of denver and reviving the lives of retired parking meters by reinstalling them with a new purpose. they will no longer collect money for parking but collect donations to be sent to local homeless agencies. this was established to discourage panhandlers or encourage extra lazy panhandlers…i’m not sure which. at least, this way you can make eye contact with the meter and not feel bad when you don’t give it any money.
