Monticello not “montisello”

After Jenny and I spent some time in New York, we rented a car and took a road trip to Charlottesville, Virginia to see our friend Claire.  She is part of the curatorial staff at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and James Madison’s Montpelier and was able to give us the extended tour.  Other than the extreme weather up on ‘little mountain’ we had a great time.  Click to see more pictures from the trip.

Thomas Jefferson was indeed an interesting and conflicted individual.  A self educated architect, he spent his life crafting his home on Palladio’s Four Books of Architecture.  He penned the original draft of the Declaration of Independence.  He fought for freedom, yet owned slaves.
